About this place
Some days call for a generous bowl of rice with mapo tofu; on others, a bowl of ramen is just right. At Kinfukugen, diners can choose from set meals, noodles and rice dishes. One lunchtime visitor ordered the daily mapo tofu and described it as spicy and a good match for rice. Their comment about the generous rice portion also suggests it could suit anyone looking for a substantial lunch.
The set-meal menu includes mapo tofu, twice-cooked pork, pork liver with garlic chives, stir-fried pork with green peppers, mixed vegetables, sweet-and-sour pork, chicken with spring onion sauce and chilli prawns, among other dishes. These are listed at ¥1,180 each. The range makes it easy to choose between a rice-centred meal and ordering a noodle or rice dish on its own. Set meals can also come with fried rice or Tianjin-style rice in place of plain rice—a simple way to change up the main.
One diner who tried the Taiwanese ramen said it was different from Japanese-style ramen, with a manageable level of heat. Although the dish was generously oily, they did not find it heavy. It offers an alternative to a set meal, and the menu also lists Sichuan tantanmen, miso ramen and Taiwanese knife-cut noodles. In summer, chilled Chinese noodles and Korean cold noodles are listed as seasonal options. There are plenty of noodle styles to choose from on another visit.
Kinfukugen, in Tennoji Ward, Osaka, offers lunch as well as small dishes and beer in the evening. It is described as suitable for solo dining, whether you’re after a filling set meal or a meal made up of several dishes.
